Education
Our education areas of focus. We work to:
- Advocate against policies that censor Texas students from learning about race, racism, sexism, gender & sexuality.
- Engage voters across Black communities in the Houston area to increase voter registration and turnout in elections.
- Improve educational equity across Houston by supporting neighborhood schools to increase retention and success.
- Support early learning and brain development, and increased access to Early Childhood Education to improve foundations for learning in historically under-resourced communities.
Take Action for Equitable Education:
Students across the state of Texas deserve an accurate, honest, and quality education at schools in their neighborhoods with curriculums and books that allow them to see themselves represented, access truthful information, and learn from our past in order to build a better future for themselves and our country.
Join Teach the Truth - Texans United Against Censorship!
Texas is one of the hardest states for people to cast their ballot, particularly Black Texans and other voters of color. During the 87th legislative session, the Texas legislature passed SB 1, a sweeping voter suppression bill. Our work seeks to resist this racist law that purposely disenfranchises voters of color by partnering with community leaders and Black-led voting rights groups to increase civic participation in Black communities in Houston.

EDUCATION
Providing resources to inform citizens and promote neighborhood school success
Locally, CCPPI strives to support improvement efforts of Houston ISD neighborhood schools. We engage with community members, board members, the superintendent, central and campus level leaders, local philanthropist, and Texas Education Agency leaders in order to support fair and equitable treatment of schools. In fact, CCPPI remains committed to helping neighborhood schools be the schools of choice in the eyes of community residents. We directly advocate for legislation related to school finance reform, full day Pre-K, and enhanced school safety among other issues that empower communities. As a part of our advocacy and research initiative, CCPPI provided grants that provided opportunities for students from Texas Southern University Jordan-Leland School of Public Affairs and the University of Houston Hobby School and Graduate College of Social Work to serve as legislative interns.
