There is an inextricable link between housing, access to quality healthcare, & individuals, families, and community's overall health since stable housing is a critical social determinant of health, along with other determinants like transportation, access to healthy foods, air and water quality, and community opportunities and safety.
Our healthcare areas of focus. We work to:
- Expand healthcare coverage for Houstonians, Texans, and Southerners.
- Improve health equity by reducing racial health disparities across the Houston region & state of Texas, especially focused on the intersection of housing and healthcare, food security, and equitable access to vaccines.
Take Action for Health Justice:
Seven states in the Southern region have not expanded Medicaid, a continuation of the racist policies that have historically restricted healthcare to people of color. Nearly 5 million Texans lack health insurance and 3/4 of Texans in the coverage gap are Black and Latinx, many of whom are low-wage frontline workers.
- The #SickOfItTX campaign is a statewide campaign to demand affordable health care for Texans, especially Texans of color, with disabilities, immigrants, and working-class people. Click here to join the movement for Medicaid expansion and health care access in Texas!
- Our eight states are also uniting to fight for healthcare, racial justice, and the future of the South. We are in the shared struggle to fight for our families, neighbors, and communities. Click here to join the Southerners for Medicaid Expansion Coalition!
The Health Equity Collective is a multi-sector effort focused on creating a more equitable health ecosystem in Greater Houston. We aim to implement a comprehensive population-level approach to understand and effectively and efficiently address the social determinants of health (SDOH) across Houston communities. CCPPI is part of the Health Equity Collective’s leadership team, focusing on SDOH Policy and Community Voice.
